No, not the song…. the movie.
I love this picture, because it shows JUST how close we can get to harm! Harm that God tried to protect us from, but we are SO far from the path that HE has for us that we place ourself in the middle of the enemy’s territory.
Sometimes the Lord will send you a Word that knocks you off your feet. That’s what this did. Now, I hardly watch TV and I haven’t watched this movie in years! But, I’m pretty sure you’ve all seen that movie, anaconda (the one where they are hunting for the blood orchid) right? Well, they have this team of scientists that believe this flower hold the power to make you live forever, basically invincible. So they want to get this flower from the middle of the jungle and bring it back to the lab to test and eventually sell. So in the beginning of the movie, they are getting ready to go on a boat and the weather is HORRIBLE! (Looks like a warning sign to me, but when God sends us signs, how many of us decide to ignore them and continue doing what we want to do?) So the leader decides to go on the journey anyway. Eventually, the captain of the ship begins to feel uneasy about which path to take and he is persuaded to take an unsafe path. ( I believe he was offered extra money to continue moving, even when he KNEW the path was unsafe!) So, the boat eventually goes OVER a waterfall and one of the crew members is eaten by a giant snake! (Isn’t it strange that sometimes we aren’t the one to suffer from our disobedience?) BUT, the captain knows someone that lives on the river, (A ram in the bush?) but they find him dead and boat crashed. Now, the majority of the crew want to turn back, BUT the leader wants to keep going. His desire to find this flower has consumed him! He just has to have it. Even when they find evidence that the jungle is FULL of these extra large, human eating SNAKES! The team begins building an escape raft BUT…The leader of the team is corrupt, sneaky, careless, and hides the fact that he has a radio to call for help! When one of the members find’s this out, he KILLS him with the venom of a spider he has. (WE don’t like for our sins to be brought to the light do we?) He just has to get this flower, ya’ll, so the movie continues on with the leader stealing the raft, and attempting to find the blood orchid. More of the team gets eaten by these snakes, and the ones left search for the raft and the leader and they all end up at this HUGE PIT. Seriously, there are so many snakes in this pit, MATING! And this pit is under the blood orchids. The leader is on a log trying to get these flowers, and he ends up getting bit by the SAME SPIDER he used to KILL the other guy and he falls into the pit, devoured .
Now let me tell you how the Holy Spirt put this thing together for me. From the very beginning, we will know something is WRONG! We will have this uneasy spirit, no peace, and God will send us signs. Most of the time, we will keeping doing what we want to do anyway and ignore the signs that He is sending us. (Just like the weather) Then we are hanging around these people that aren’t BOLD about their faith and they encourage us to KEEP GOING in our sin! They say things like “God knows your heart, or Love isn’t a sin!” Like the Captain, you’re persuaded to take an unsafe path! So you’re SO wrapped up in your sin, that it drags you OVER a waterfall and sometimes, even in that moment, you aren’t the one that has to pay the greatest for that sin. Just like we have sex outside of marriage, not thinking of how our family would have to deal if we contracted HIV or if you’re doing drugs and kill someone else because you drove around under the influence. BUT, in the middle of our mess, God will send a way OUT! If we just take it. If not, we may end up like the leader of the crew. The one who became SO consumed with his sin, that he was willing to do ANYTHING to fulfill his desire. How much sneaking around, lying, cheating, do you have to do to fulfill your nasty, desires? This man was willing to KILL, for a flower that was supposed to bring life. How ironic is that? But just like any sin that we wrestle with, once consumed by it, it will KILL you. He was bitten by the SAME spider he used to kill someone else with! Paralyzed by the venom. He was devoured by SNAKES, under the flower that he thought would bring forth invincibility , eternal life. He missed it.
I’m just going to sit this right here.
Don’t let your sinful desires be the cause of your death. Physical or spiritual.
Romans 6:23 KJV “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Until next time,
