Today, I want to write from the bottom of my heart— to all of the ladies that are dreading mother’s day tomorrow. Yea, this post is keeping it all the way real. I know your thoughts, because I’ve had to tell the enemy to get outta my head today! When the entire world is changing their Facebook profile picture to an “I LOVE MY MOM” banner… it makes it kinda hard for us!
I want to let you know that you are not alone and you are not forgotten. I know that nobody thought to call you and ask how you are doing. I know nobody DM’d you a word of encouragement, but that’s why I’m here! I know that it seems like every women’s ministry is focusing on finding an husband or being a Proverbs 31 woman… but what about the 1 Samuel women?? What about the single ladies that have endometriosis or PCOS & don’t feel worthy of marriage? What about the wives that struggle silently; because any reproductive issues at all makes people look at you sideways… like “what type of wife/woman are you?” It doesn’t help that in my culture, these types of things aren’t really discussed. It makes you feel really isolated, and less of a woman. I’m praying for you sis, and we are gonna get through tomorrow TOGETHER! Just because you are not a mother YET, doesn’t mean that you won’t ever be a mom.
I want you to read the first chapter of 1 Samuel when you have a chance. I often quote 1 Samuel 1:20, but just recently I took the time to read the entire chapter. It really blessed my spirit, because I was really starting to feel down in the dumps. It’s like, I know that 1 in 10 people have diagnosed PCOS and even more undiagnosed… but sometime I feel ALONE and that nobody gets what I go through. A lot of people really don’t get it. One lady told my friend (that also has PCOS) “It’s not a big deal, it’s not like you can die from it.” I mean, how insensitive can you be? We struggle with symptoms that range from severe acne-to dandruff the size of golfballs-to facial hair-to severe cramps-headahces-irregular bleeding, this disorder can lead to diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure AND infertility… and you’re saying its no big deal? So, I get that people are uneducated and they say hurtful things. Even a simple, “Ya’ll ain’t having kids yet?” can be hurtful for a wife that hasn’t had luck with IVF. & it hurts. & we cry, but we cannot walk around hopeless because our faith should be in the promises of our Father! So back to the Bible….
When God lead me to this passage, I was blown away by his love and faithfulness. I mean, Hannah went through the exact same things we are going through. She had to deal with someone throwing the fact that she doesn’t have a child in her face. (1:6) She had to deal with the depression that comes along with waiting until God opens your womb. (1:7) I mean, Hannah was so depressed/sad at one point that she wouldn’t even eat! She had to deal with people, her own HUSBAND, not understanding her pain and down playing her problems. (1:8)
I’m sure that while Hannah was going through these things, she could not understand why. Just like we can’t understand why we have to go through this now. But, just imagine if Hannah didn’t have this amazing testimony! Then, we would have no hope… but because God has proved himself faithful in the Word — we KNOW that he can do it again! Sometimes, we have to go through things just so that we can give someone else hope. Sometimes, it just so that God can get the glory out of our lives. Sis, I want you to know that you will be a mother one day and I will shout down the church building with you, girl!
But, just like Hannah did… you have to pour out your frustrations to the Lord. Pour your heart out to him and listen to what he tell you. Maybe, he’s telling you to adopt a child. Maybe, he’s telling you to WAIT because it isn’t your season just yet. Maybe, you’re reading this blog and you have a unexpected blessing growing inside of your belly! Orrrrrrr, on the flip side, maybe God is telling you to be intentional about getting your finances in order. Or, maybe he’s telling you to stop eating like trash— so you can have a healthy pregnancy and baby! Just be obedient and intentional to what he is tell you!
I know that Mother’s Day can be a very difficult holiday for ladies that struggle with ALL reproductive disorders, diseases, cancers, miscarriages, stillborn angels and more. So, I want you to know that I love you all so so much and I am praying for you! I’m thinking of you and holding you dear to my heart. Today, take an hour to pour your heart out to God, like Hannah— then go cheerfully and rejoice in God’s promises to you. Read my blog titled “Prayer of Faith” (totally clickable) for encouragement, and go celebrate the lives of the mamas that have babies today! It will be your turn soon, and you will want them to celebrate you!
If you already have children, but know a sister in Christ that is going through this test- be intentional about reaching out to her and SINCERELY encouraging her! Love you forever!
“But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” 1 Samuel 1:5-8
“Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” 1 Samuel 1:11
“So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying,“Because I have asked for him from the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:20
